Multiple agencies collaborate to ensure these sites remain safe, maintain national security at the border and can’t be exploited to cause harm.
To support this effort and increase security and readiness against terrorism, industry and the public can consider the following additional guidance that can be found on ProtectUK and from NaCTSO’s experienced advisors.
Boosting staff awareness
Your people are your biggest asset and the first line in your defences against terrorism. You can boost staff vigilance and awareness with our ACT e-Learning.
At no charge, they can take our unique e-Learning modules to help them spot the signs of terrorism, and your dedicated security staff can complete the specific training units to equip them to respond effectively when it matters.
Go to our e-Learning page where you can sign up to e-Learning courses for free to help keep you and your staff safe from terrorism and other major incidents.
ProtectUK awareness resources
You can remind the public to stay vigilant at ports with our free awareness campaign resources.
Download our targeted awareness tools to ensure that the people passing through your port or location are reminded of the vigilance messages they are seeing elsewhere.
You can find materials and information to use on the ProtectUK site.
You can also download the full assets for Project Kraken from the Home Office website. Project Kraken is a national initiative to raise public awareness of terrorism and criminal or suspicious activity around our coasts and borders.
Reporting terrorism concerns
You must ensure your staff know where and how to report concerns when something doesn’t seem right.
The online home for confidential reports about terrorism is Action Counters Terrorism.
You can access the website at www.act.campaign.gov.uk or call the dedicated terrorism hotline in confidence on 0800 789321.
In the event of a live incident, you should always call 999 to get immediate help.
UK Border Watch
The UK Border Watch Hotline from Crimestoppers is there for when it doesn’t seem like terrorism.
And you can find out more about Project Kraken for reporting suspicious behaviour on the coast or at sea.
Counter Terrorism Security Advisors
If you are looking for dedicated advice you can find out more by talking to one of our highly trained Counter Terrorism Security Advisors (CTSAs).
You can find out more about CTSAs on our Working with Counter Terrorism Security Advisors (CTSAs) page. You can locate your nearest CTSA using the contact list.
